Review- Cadbury Dairy Milk NEW Marvellous Smashables Rocky Mallow Road

I have been hunting high and low for this NEW Rocky Mallow Road Dairy Milk from Cadbury and being the impatient person that I am, felt I was never going to find it.. That was until I took a trip to Morrisons where it was on offer for £1.50 - Double Winner!

They have done away with Marvellous Creations in lieu of a new name.. The nowhere near as catchy, Marvellous Smashables!

I thought the bar had melted given its mighty strange shape in the wrapper but after seeing the illustration on the back, the design and "Smashables" part became clear!

Milk chocolate with marshmallows (7%), strawberry flavour jellies (5%) and shortcake biscuit (5%)

As instructed, I flipped the bar over and got quite excited by all the bumps! I then questioned what I was going to whack the thing with.. A chocolate hammer is shown on the front. I don't have a chocolate hammer. I decide on a pastry pusher being my best bet and proceeded to give the bar a good old wallop!

TA-DAAA! To my astonishment, the chocolate broke exactly where it should and into little segments - It was like magic!

After much faffing about, I got stuck in. I didn't think it particular smelt a lot of Dairy Milk but then again, it didn't taste like it either! The strawberry jelly pieces were without a doubt, the most prominent element of the bar - Although not artificial tasting, they did wipe out most of the creamy chocolate taste with their super strong and sweet flavour. A nice chew came from the marshmallows but as expected, added further sweetness - The flavour reminded me a lot of the Marvellous Creations Fairground Candyfloss Ice Cream which threw me a bit! I felt that the biscuit pieces were totally overpowered by everything else that was going on in the bar but they did have a nice crunch even if the taste was barely distinguishable.

Overall, this NEW Marvellous Smashables is mainly just confusing.. You have potent gummy jellies, sweet chewy mallows and tasteless biscuit bits, all in a wishy washy chocolate! I am not usually one to say this but I feel this bar has to much going on - You are basically left with a mouthful of bits once the chocolate has melted! I also don't get the point of the whole "Smashable" concept.. It seems like far to much effort and at the end of the day, unless you are mad on novelty, I don't expect you are going to mess about trying to find a whack worthy tool to bash the bar with. Worth a go once but after that, probably one best for the kids - Its a 2.5 out 5 from me!

  1. Thanks very much for posting this review. The jelly popping candy bar is my favourite, so when I first saw this picture I got excited thinking it might be similar to the other one. But by the sounds of it it's not really that great. I also struggle to see the point of smashing the bar.

    1. The Jelly Popping Candy is my favourite too but unfortunately, this one isn't a patch on it. I can't imagine many people will bother smashing it.. Its not really the most practical thing to do if you're not at home in your own kitchen, to make mess in :P x

  2. Can't believe they didn't give you a chocolate hammer upon purchase! I was dubious of this jelly business as you say far too much going on! And smashable, I'm struggling to see the point of this. Hey Ho lets hope the next flavour they brig out is better!x

    1. I know.. I was surprised too! :D I expect it will be sticking around for about as long as the Banana one, they are giving the boot. It does feel they have run out of ideas a bit so just half "reinvent" what they've already done.. Fingers crossed to a winning bar, up next! :D xx

  3. I saw the Jelly Popping variety of Smashables in Morrisons this morning. 'New shape' says the packaging. No mention of 'Now 10% smaller' though. Quite disappointing they took this as an opportunity to drop from 200g to 180g at the same price

    1. Hello Mr Lobster! Oo I can't say I looked at how many grams the new bar was but thinking about it, there did seem to be less choc! Typical.. They'll take any opportunity they can to decrease the grammage.. and sometimes, if we are really lucky, they'll bump up the price too! Haha I shouldn't put ideas in their head actually :P x

    1. You've hit the nail on the head (with your chocolate hammer I'm going to assume) - We do all have different tastes. Go forth, wallop and enjoy :)

    2. I don't particularly like smashing any chocolate same goes for a chocolate orange. Not keen on this bar either the jelly is just all wrong. (My opinion)

  5. At first I thought they was a reject new design bar that they was dipscontinuing because they was being sold at half price of 75p at Iceland freezer Beams at Fulham Broadway. I tasted this bar i had not tasted before and it was a reject i said to myself the jelly was strange and we'll the other flavour so what to he desired. but lime a fat waster i amm (over weight thru munching multi packs and anythingi can scrounge of the sweet manufactuers via there disrobuter (Tesco, Sainsburys ect) pay no more than "£1" It's a crime to have me in there shops because £1 is a ll i am going to oay else I raid PoundLand wjere sweets are amass at that price for a much munch munch.. wait a minute IITERGESTION. my god i never learned my lesson as I will swallow these top tingly so lovely to taste foods of sweetness all in one go, and wake up in the middle of the night with bars next to the bed and wake up the next morning with bad interesting and not a hard stool in my life for uears. Good job the shower is on a flex right to next to the toilet (How to wipe your bum with this problem and leave no tale tale sign, because toilet paper os going to cost you a fortune and will not wipe semi hard poo. Oh well.
But these reduced price bars of smasjerbles i was buying from inpclenad about four time one of each flavour began to grow on me and no i love them. Iceland are now down to the last ten bars as they have sold there consignment. I looked them up to see if the bar was a flop and they was reduced because they was discontinuing but super markets are still sell g them for about £2 on a avwrage buy also offering 2 for £3. I will buy a 10x box for £20 . this will keep me happy. some on ebay for £15 for 10x Bo but exspired in early April . The Iceland one I got don't exspired to June.
For £20 for 10x it would be nice to exspired this August the 8th month printed on the back.
Worth every penny of £20. I was told it use to be called adiffrent name maybe I munched it and never noticed. I hope they still manufacture this
Thank you Cadburys i will do you a a favour in the Midlands and allow Leicester City the win the premiership to make up for being relerfpgated to the old third division for the first time in there history. Richard the third will not be there i must say. But please oh please don't make the population have to ware that rediculous hat made from tjere new design tare ajd share walkers crisp packets. it is supose to be a cap. you remember the old air force APS and same copur at that PLEASE SPARE US THIS EMBARESSMENT
I belive they only made tare and share no walkers crisps as a party hat to celebrate Leicester City being premiership champions. It looks stupid every ody putting g on the Leicester Criggy hat . Dunder boncing all about the place , like docile test bunys goofy goofing it all about like test bunny on Dr Benson. amd Professor Hedges Test lab floor.
In days of old and in days of cult followings like gone. Ye here thes words of listen into your brain of think. on tis day of many days to come , ajd on this day of many days past YOU WOULD HAVE GOT HUNG DRAWN AND BLOODY QUATERD FOR TRYING TO pull off a leicster hat stunt as this on the nation in the olden
    days.
