Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Wonderful White Chocolate Flapjacks

You'll never guess what I've finally managed to locate.. I'll tell you what, Thomas J. Fudge's Wonderful White Chocolate Flapjacks! It's only taken me about 6 months but I finally stumbled across them in Waitrose and snapped up the £3.25, LE box promptly! 

We appear to have moved on from balancing buildings on ones head to a rather natty, fruit hat.. Good luck to you when you get stung by a buzzy insect in the summer sun or even better, when it starts to rot and drip all down your neck - Pretty images for everyone there. 

I've missed the 8 items in a plastic tray within a cardboard outer packaging.. Haven't you? It's classic Fudge's!

I have to admit on first impressions, I wasn't blown away - The Flapjacks smelt nothing like the Milk Chocolate variety with no real buttery scent or syrup tones with more of a semi sweet rabbit food aroma! Texture wise, they were equally not up to scratch thanks to a much drier and crumbly feel that really wasn't all that pleasant to chew - It was too "bitty" and had relatively hard oats in places. As for the flavour, there was also quite a lot to improve on. The lack of decent scent certainly reflected in taste with very little in terms of butteriness or sweetness along with the unfortunate kick of bitter "orange" which I swear was more grapefruit and didn't appreciate at all! The abundance of cranberries did go some way in making it more palatable and went well with the thick coating of creamy, white chocolate.. But disappointingly couldn't mask what was essentially, a poor excuse for a Flapjack! 

Oh dear. My beloved Thomas J. Fudge's seem to have come down with an almighty crash! I don't know what they're playing at as usually, their treats are flawless and I moan that there isn't enough in the box and yet with these dry, grapefruit Flapjack wannabes, you couldn't pay me to eat them! Thank goodness MSW liked them otherwise the bin would have been their fate - It's a 1 out of 5 from me.

Review- Asda NEW Puds: Carrot Cake, Banoffee Bombs and Rhubarb Jumbles

Something crazy seems to have happened to Asda's Fresh Dessert section - It's over run with Puds! No word of a lie, there are about a dozen+ NEW additions.. From fruity, St Clement, Passionfruit and Coconut to Millionaires and Mocha with Gingerbread Latte, Afternoon Tea, Apple Betty and a Blueberry Pancake number thrown in along the American way for good measure.. And that's just to name a few!  

After much umming and ahhing, I decided on the Carrot Cake, Banoffee Bombs and Rhubarb Jumbles which all cost £2 each with the latter weighing in slightly less at 96g per pot rather than the 100g seen in the Carrot and the 135g with the Banoffee. I'm going to assume this theme runs throughout all the NEW Desserts as they come in variety of different size pots.. Just to boggle everyone a bit. 

Carrot Cake

Cream cheese flavour mousse, carrot cake flavour compote and mixed spice sponge pieces.

Oo look at the gooey, ooeyness. The Pud smelt amazing and surprisingly like Cream Cheese - I half expected it to be nondescript! Digging all the way down to the bottom to ensure I got all three elements, I took a big mouthful and was immediately in heaven! The super smooth compote was the first thing to hit with its relatively spicey kick of cinnamon and ginger - Something we all know to be key with a good Carrot Cake. This was only complimented by the sponge which was soft enough and once again, packed full of those signature mixed spice flavours as well as proving to be a decent contrast in texture to all the soft. As for the pillowy mousse which was generously topping the lot, it was creamy and sweet with a good tang that was only to easy to identify as being Cream Cheese. Delicious - 4 out of 5 from me!

Banoffee Bombs

Banana mousse with fudge and toffee flavour sauces, sponge pieces and toffee chips. 

Moving onto the Banoffee Bomb and the one I was the most apprehensive about.. I love the flavour combination but in recent years have acquired an on-off banana allergy but figured I would risk these given my general wild ways and the fact the content of said fruit was only at 2.4%. This may seem not a lot but boy, did these pack a punch! The mousse was full on banana and nothing but with the balance of being "real" and artificial, perfectly paired. Super smooth and sticky, the toffee flavour was the next element to show itself which I would liken to the buttery taste of Werthers Original. The odd bit of sponge came to light but wasn't any where as near apparent or abundant as the Carrot Cake, above. A sprinkling of crunchy chips on the top was the delicious finishing touch which heightened the Toffee even further as well as complimented the lingering, banana aftertaste! It's a 4.5 out of 5 from me! 

Rhubarb Jumbles

Vanilla flavour mousse, cheesecake batter, rhubarb compote and flapjack pieces. 

Finally, the Rhubarb Jumbles which were bought in mind of MSW who can't get enough of the pink stalked stuff! As seen with the previous Puds, the mousse was whipped a treat with a lovely texture but this time didn't deliver in terms of taste - It was bland with no real vanilla flavour and all a bit claggy! The Cheesecake batter was also a let down as I couldn't even distinguish such a thing, let alone taste it. A very subtle tang came from the measly portion of Rhubarb at the bottom which was certainly way more chunky than a compote should ever be. As for the flapjack pieces, they were buttery and soft with a good chewy, oaty texture but unfortunately, couldn't save the thing from being almost tasteless overall. A disappointing 2 out of 5 from me. 

Well, minus the Rhubarb Jumbles, I am quite pleased I picked up these NEW Desserts - Both the Carrot Cake and Banoffee Bombs have some serious flavour and make for very luxurious, indulgent Puds that would go down a treat with anyone and everyone! I would definitely buy both again, if not, try some of the others flavours from the never ending list. One thing that I can't not mention though is the absence of a Red Velvet option - Why Asda have covered classic American Desserts here but failed to include the best of the lot, is beyond me.. Someone sort it out, please! 

Review- Betty Bakes Very Berry Flapjack Bites

Betty Bakes has returned to the Bloggy! This has been a long time coming - Our week long Bonanza was way back in May, would you believe it!? The reason it has been so long is due to the fact Betty isn't stocked anywhere near me much to my dismay. Fortunately, I randomly spotted this bag of Very Berry Flapjack Bites at Snape Maltings in Suffolk - My home away from home! Now, the price I am a little shady on.. I am pretty sure I bought mine on sale for £2.75 (ish) but their normal price was £3.50 - Pricey, yes! 

All butter flapjack with raspberry sauce and real cranberries drizzled with white chocolate 

The 16 bites really were bite size and smelt beautifully fruity - A scent no one can resist! Texture wise, the flapjack base was quite dry and very crumbly yet chewy at the same time.. It was a good job they were designed to be eaten in one go otherwise crumbs would have been everywhere! Packed with oats, a nutty butteriness was the initial flavour developing into a tart cranberry and raspberry which was cut by the sweeter topping of creamy white chocolate. The different elements went perfectly together and it was all to easy to pop one after another of the sticky cubes into your mouth!

Well I am as pleased as ever with old Betty Bakes - She really is the queen of gluten/wheat free! These Very Berry Flapjacks are definitely one to try if you're sensitive to such things and even if you're not.. They are a hell of a lot tastier than similar products. Hunt them down and give them a go. Its a 4 out of 5 from me! 

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Marvellous Milk Chocolate Flapjacks

After having reviewed the rather delicious, Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines a few weeks a go, I was hungry to try more from Thomas J. Fudge's. I spotted these Marvellous Milk Chocolate Flapjacks in Asda which were priced at £2.90 - Slightly more than the £2.69, I had paid in Tesco! 

I can't get enough of the quirky packaging - I certainly feel very fancy buying these.. Even the cardboard feels luxurious! 

As seen previously with the Florentines, the 8 chocolate dipped Flapjacks, were presented in a little plastic tray within a cardboard outer - Perfect for popping on the table, as is!

I wish you all, could smells these.. Imagine falling into a pot of sweet syrupy, melted butter - That is the best way to describe the scent! The flapjacks were soft and moist rather than being so densely packed with oats, they have become dry. Having said that, they were still very substantial with plenty of chew and a delicious, sweet and oaty flavour. The butter was slightly salted which is always a good thing when there are a lot of super sweet elements, in there! The well proportioned, chocolate that coated the flapjack was rich and creamy - I imagine they would have had to have been dipped several times to get such a thick layer! Absolutely scrumptious! 

Thomas J. Fudge's have done it again - These babies are certainly something special! I do like it when a fairly simple treat, is done well to produce something that is really quite remarkable! I will definitely be buying these flapjacks again, along with the Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines. My only complaint is that there needs to be more than 8 in a box.. They are far to easy to scoff in one sitting! Its a 4.5 out of 5 from me!
