Review- Tesco Finest Belgian Chocolate & Valencia Orange Melting Middle Puddings

As a Tesco Orchard Member, I was recently invited to join the Finest Chilled and Frozen Dessert Programme and received a £3 off voucher to spend on my desired pud. I opted for these Belgian Chocolate & Valencia Orange Melting Middle Puddings which didn't cost me a penny as they were exactly £3!

Moist, all butter Belgian chocolate sponges with a rich, intense centre of smooth chocolate and tangy Valencia orange sauce, finished with a drizzle of Belgian chocolate and sweet candied orange slice.

I microwaved my little pudding for the exact 30 second duration it suggested on the box. It turned out perfectly - Delicious smelling with a warm, gooey molten centre. The sauce on its own tasted very zesty and was similar to an actual Terry's Chocolate Orange but bizarrely, when eaten with the cake, it tasted of nothing! Although it was moist and squidgy, the sponge totally overpowered/washed out all the orange flavour which resulted in it being like every other, generic microwavable Chocolate Pudding. It also had quite a greasy feel to it and was a bit claggy, in the mouth. The topping was about the only good part but even then, it was hardly anything to get excited about.. It's only candied orange!

Overall, these Finest Belgian Chocolate & Valencia Orange Melting Middle Puddings are almost as pointless as the length of their name! The flavour is miles away from the luxurious description on the box - Rich? No. Intense? No. Tangy? NO. Perhaps I just made the wrong choice in what to spend my voucher on but considering it was from the Finest range, you do expect a quality pud, no matter which you pick. It may have been free by its a 1 out of 5 from me!

  1. I've been doing this project too and, when I first saw your post, I was gutted this dessert wasn't available in my store! I ended up with the salted caramel and chocolate desserts - nice but not special. Sounds like they were better than the chocolate orange, though!

    1. Ah I am jealous that you managed to get the Salted Caramel version - My store didnt have those either :( I do wonder if one of the tarts would have been a better bet though.. They seem to be quite popular!

  2. I absolutely love the harshness of some of your reviews - "Disastrous desserts"
