Review- Birds Eye NEW Homebake Cheese & Onion Rolls

Oo Cheese & Onion Rolls.. A Veggie alternative to the traditional meat, sausage jobby! - What a time to be alive! OK, so maybe it isn't all that revolutionary considering Greggs do sell such a thing as do numerous other places I expect but I've never seen a Frozen Homebake version before so.. YAY!

I picked up the pack of 4 "Snap & Bake" Birds Eye Rolls in Morrisons for £1.47 but they are currently on a 2 for £2 offer, if you fancy it. They promise to be packed full of delicious flavour with the freshest, lightest and flakiest pastry - Some quite bold claims there!

I popped the Cheese & Onion Rolls (Including a very wiggly one) on a baking tray, ready to go into a 190ºC Fan oven for 20-25 minutes or until piping hot in the centre. As you can see, I didn't bother to snap mine as suggested but I did give it a go with the remaining Roll and it split in 2 as easy as peas.

Cheddar cheese and onion filling in puff pastry.

Wahey! They cooked up a treat with gooey centres, golden puffed up pastry and minimal burnt bits! My oven has been so well behaved recently which probably means it's about to break.. Oh joy.

Cutting the steaming Cheese & Onion Roll in two, it was plain to see the flaky layers with the soft and squidgy interior. Taking a bite, the texture was spot on with the pastry being, without a shadow of a doubt, the best I've ever experienced with a frozen Sausage Roll - It was buttery, light and all round delicious as promised. As for the melty filling which was a fab squidgy contrast to the crisp exterior, cheesiness and onion came through although I would have liked them both to be a little more potent as after a few mouthfuls, the flavour was a little mute.. But delicious nevertheless!

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed these Birds Eye Cheese & Onion Rolls and am really quite happy to have stumbled across them. I will definitely be buying them again for a quick and easy Tea thats not only cheap but mighty tasty.. I'd imagine the Homebake Sausage version will also end up in my basket! It's a 4 out of 5 from me.
