Review- Thomas J. Fudge's LE Caffè Mocha Florentines

It's safe to say I am a huge, massive, gigantic Thomas J. Fudge's fan - I think I have reviewed most, if not all of their sweet biscuits now but there is always one which proves to be the most elusive and seemingly impossible to get your hands on.. In my case, it was the LE Caffè Mocha Florentines! 

Thankfully, Nibs has my back and being the wonderful person that she is, popped a box in the post for me - One that was illustrated in the usual Thomas J. Fudge's fashion I might add.. The art of balancing random objects on ones hat! 

The 8 Florentines looked a tad buffed in their staggered plastic tray although most inviting with both sultanas and nuts plain to see.. And then I read the ingredients list. Brazil Nuts!? 

Deciding to proceed regardless of a potential reaction to the nuts, I picked the Florentine which looked most lacking in the aforementioned department and got stuck into the pure coffee smelling treat. Crunchy with oodles of chew, it was packed with almonds and caramel to produce the wonderful signature feel of any decent Florentine with a sweet, buttery flavour complimented by hits of dried fruit and a tang from the citrus peel. The Mocha aspect was most definitely in the forefront and seemed somewhat artificial at first given the potency but then did mellow to allow the other flavours to come through with as always, the milk chocolate being divine - Super smooth and creamy with the never disappointing cocoa kick. As for the pesky Brazil Nuts.. MSW said they didn't add much in terms of texture or taste purely because there was so much else going on.. And I lived to tell the tale! 

Overall, these Thomas J. Fudges Caffè Mocha Florentines are perfect for any coffee lover out there. Yes, they do seem a bit questionable at first but given a chance with a hot drink (Or something stronger!), they are more than enough to get a substantial sweet fix. Here's to hoping that finding them is easier for you than it was for me! - It's a 3.5 out of 5.

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Wonderful White Chocolate Flapjacks

You'll never guess what I've finally managed to locate.. I'll tell you what, Thomas J. Fudge's Wonderful White Chocolate Flapjacks! It's only taken me about 6 months but I finally stumbled across them in Waitrose and snapped up the £3.25, LE box promptly! 

We appear to have moved on from balancing buildings on ones head to a rather natty, fruit hat.. Good luck to you when you get stung by a buzzy insect in the summer sun or even better, when it starts to rot and drip all down your neck - Pretty images for everyone there. 

I've missed the 8 items in a plastic tray within a cardboard outer packaging.. Haven't you? It's classic Fudge's!

I have to admit on first impressions, I wasn't blown away - The Flapjacks smelt nothing like the Milk Chocolate variety with no real buttery scent or syrup tones with more of a semi sweet rabbit food aroma! Texture wise, they were equally not up to scratch thanks to a much drier and crumbly feel that really wasn't all that pleasant to chew - It was too "bitty" and had relatively hard oats in places. As for the flavour, there was also quite a lot to improve on. The lack of decent scent certainly reflected in taste with very little in terms of butteriness or sweetness along with the unfortunate kick of bitter "orange" which I swear was more grapefruit and didn't appreciate at all! The abundance of cranberries did go some way in making it more palatable and went well with the thick coating of creamy, white chocolate.. But disappointingly couldn't mask what was essentially, a poor excuse for a Flapjack! 

Oh dear. My beloved Thomas J. Fudge's seem to have come down with an almighty crash! I don't know what they're playing at as usually, their treats are flawless and I moan that there isn't enough in the box and yet with these dry, grapefruit Flapjack wannabes, you couldn't pay me to eat them! Thank goodness MSW liked them otherwise the bin would have been their fate - It's a 1 out of 5 from me.

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Wondrous White Chocolate Florentines

I think I need to make up a Thomas J. Fudge's, chant - I love them so and have lost count of how many reviews I have done now! My trusty old and ever so slightly nutty, Mrs 1T very kindly sent me these Wondrous White Chocolate Florentines for Christmas (Along with something else which will be revealed another day) after not being able to find them for love nor money - How wonderful is she?! 

I do enjoy the illustration on these boxes.. Who knew balancing buildings on ones hat could be such fun? I am almost tempted to give it ago myself! 

I don't mean to alarm anybody but the 8 Florentines were presented in a plastic tray within a cardboard outer.. What is this sorcery?!

It may look like I picked the Florentine that was the most loaded, for the sake of a good picture but I assure you this wasn't the case at all - The distribution of dried fruit was on point with only 1 round, lacking a Sultana or 2.. A vast improvement to what I have experienced previously! Taking a bite, I was shocked by how hard it was. As usual, there was an abundance of crunchy almonds but I think it was the caramel holding the lot together that resulted in actual effort having to be used to chomp through. This in turn caused the thick white chocolate to crack and crumble everywhere but where it was suppose to go and I ended eating most of it off the table top! Taste wise, there wasn't as much to complain about as they were delicious - Rich, buttery and sweet with nuttiness and a fruity, zingy kick thanks to the citrus peel. The quality of the thick chocolate was superb in being super creamy and sweet but not to sweet to handle.. So I can forgive its crumbly state! 

Overall and not surprisingly, these Wondrous White Chocolate Florentines are fantastic. I have moaned previously about the quality control of Thomas J. Fudge's goods but these were spot on.. They even softened up and went slightly gooey once opened which made them easier on the teeth. I can't fathom how or why the texture of each variant of Florentine* has been so different but I don't suppose it matters all that much considering how delicious they always are. It's a 4 out of 5 from me - Thanks Mrs 1T!

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's NEW Salted Caramel Florentines

I couldn't see the month out without a Thomas J. Fudge's review.. And what a treat to end on - Salted Caramel Florentines, Folks! I finally found them in Waitrose and paid a whopping £3.50.. I've never known such sporadic pricing!

As usual, the box had a funky pink design with some sort of architecture balancing on the chaps hat - How very fancy! 

8 Florentines in a plastic tray within a cardboard outer? Surely not! 

The first thing to strike me about these Florentines were how soft they were - I picked one up and it immediately bent! This wasn't all that surprising considering the sheer quantity of caramel binding the lot together. Although still crunchy in texture thanks to the almonds, a far greater chewyness was apparent due to all of the golden "glue". Taste wise, they were very buttery with the usual nuttiness and subtle citrus tones but foremost was the salted caramel.. Boy, was it salted! Usually I am moaning about the lack of the stuff but on this occasion it was borderline to much even with the sweetness of the dried fruit which was far better distributed than seen previously. Such a shame! 

The tables have turned - I can't quite believe I'm moaning about a salted caramel being to salted! Maybe it was just this box of Florentines that were so saline but I am not sure I would want to pay another £3.50 to find out. Sorry Thomas J. Fudges, its a 3 out of 5 from me!

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's NEW Flaky Cheese Straws

I am yet to find the White Chocolate Florentines and the NEW Cranberry Flapjacks I have been lusting after so I have had to move onto the savoury offerings from Thomas J. Fudge's with these NEW Flaky Cheese Straws. Having only ever had the cheapy supermarket brand ones previously, I was curious to see if/how much better these would be! 

I picked up the 100g box in Waitrose where they cost me £2.25. Continuing in true Thomas J. Fudge's fashion, it was illustrated with a quirky Cheese hatted Chap with Butterflies chucked in for good measure. 

9 Cheese Straws were presented in a little cardboard holder - Why not 10, I am unsure. I like an even number, don't you? 

You can't quite tell from the picture but the layers of puff pastry in the straw were very apparent upon breaking one in half with airy pockets and all. Their cheesy and buttery scent was most definitely reflected in the taste.. Although the cheddar was mild at first, it would then would develop into something much stronger with a slightly salty kick. The straws themselves were fairly hard in texture but moreishly crunchy - It would be all to easy to eat one after another.. After another! 

Overall, I am going to be as bold as to say that the savoury options from Thomas J. Fudge's are as a good as the sweet.. And thats coming from a Sugar Princess as well as after only having tried 1 savoury product! Please, splash some cash and buy these NEW Flaky Cheese Straws - Yes, they are pricey but they are far superior to any cheaper Supermarket equivalent, I've ever had! Its a 4.5 out of 5 from me 

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Stem Ginger Blisscuits Dipped in Dark Chocolate

Its a new month which means an obligatory Thomas J. Fudge's review is required - I have done so many now I think it will be easier to just link them at the bottom of the post rather than list them here! Today it is the turn of another Biscuit with these Stem Ginger Blisscuits Dipped in Dark Chocolate which I picked up in Tesco for £1.99. 

A orangey theme illustrated the white cardboard box - Quite fitting for October and the impending Halloween shenanigans. 

As always the 8 Blisscuits are presented in a plastic tray - I like how they are staggered so they can't get buffed around to much. 

You will have to excuse my finger print on the chocolate - If I have been seen sensible and thought about it, I would have grabbed it from the other side! The biscuits had a short texture that was buttery in flavour with the chewy ginger coming through nicely thanks to being evenly distributed throughout. It was quite mild in taste and no where near as strong as a Gingernut but was still pleasantly warming and made a great pairing to the deep rich chocolate which as always was generously coating one half of the Biscuit. A much stronger heat came from the Stem Ginger on top which I have to admit, wasn't my cup of Tea but that is just personal preference! 

Overall, these Stem Ginger Blisscuits are wonderful - And thats coming from someone who isn't a fan of the really potent stuff! They are everything a good Biscuit should be and I can imagine them going down a treat with the young and old. Word has it that Thomas J. Fudge's are releasing a new bakery treat next week so keep your eyes peeled - I am so excited to see what they have come up with! Today, its a 4.5 out of 5 from me!

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Decadent Dark Chocolate Florentines

Its Thomas J. Fudge's time again!  I can't help but pick up a different box from my favourite biscuit makers when ever I walk past them in the supermarket. With Almond Blisscuits, Milk Chocolate Flapjacks and Florentines all in the bag, today is the turn of the Decadent Dark Chocolate version of the latter, costing £2.99 in Tesco - I am not sure why the pricing is so sporadic as I have never bought any of them when on offer but hey ho, here we go!

A purple theme is rocking the box of chocolate, nut and caramel Florentines which this time, contain a hint of stem ginger too.

As usual, the 8 Florentines were presented in a plastic tray within a illustrated cardboard outer. 

Rich cocoa was the scent coming from the Jaffa Cake sized treats which corresponded to the deep dark chocolate that coated one side of the Florentine. Similarly to the Milk Chocolate variety, these were packed to the rafters with crunchy Almonds - I am always impressed at the number, Thomas J. Fudge's manage to use! The delicious, buttery caramel which held everything together was pleasantly sticky and produced a super chewy consistency.. It certainly gives your jaw a work out but thats  a small price to pay for a good Florentine, I reckon! Subtle notes of citrus came through with the aforementioned hint of ginger although I am not sure you would notice it unless you were expecting /looking for it. My only complaint is the how sparse the dried fruit was..

As you can see, the Florentine on the left contained 5 sultanas whilst its Mate on the right had none whatsoever! It turned out that 3 out of the box of 8 were completely missing dried fruit - They were still delicious but no one likes inconsistency.. Especially if you are the poor soul who picks a plain one! 

Overall, enjoyable but not as much so as the Milk Chocolate Florentines - I am such a nag when it comes to quality control but if I have bought something on the promise that they ALL contain x, y and z, then it best be true otherwise I get very grumpy! My next mission is to find the NEW Salted Caramel version which are only available in Waitrose and Ocodo.. I will not stop until I have tried the entire Thomas J. Fudge's range! As for these Decadent Dark Chocolate jobbies, its a 3.5 out of 5 from me! 

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Roasted Almond Blisscuits Dipped in Milk Chocolate

I have become quite the Thomas J. Fudge's fan - I loved the Marvellous Milk Chocolate Flapjacks as well as the Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines! Forever scanning the biscuit aisle in hope of finding more, my beady eyes spotted these Roasted Almond Blisscuits Dipped in Milk Chocolate for £1.99, in good old Tesco. 

As usual, the packaging is stunning - I like the pink theme of this box, very much! 

8 chocolate dipped, almond biscuits were contained in the signature, plastic tray within a cardboard outer.

Wow, these smelt good! It was like pure almond extract - My favourite! The biscuits were beautifully short textured with a delicious buttery flavour that was perfectly balanced with the taste of Bakewell - It really was uncanny! Crunch came from the almonds that ran throughout as well adding nutty tones. The thick layer of milk chocolate that coated half of the biscuit was divine, as usual. It felt very luxurious with a rich cocoa flavour and a lovely melt - Gorgeous!

Who knew that chocolate and almond extract were such a perfect pairing? Thomas J. Fudge's obviously did as these are faultless! I sound like a broken record but my only quibble is that they are far to scrumptious to only have 8 in a box - Bump it up to 10 and it would be top marks! Today, its a 4.5 from me! 

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Marvellous Milk Chocolate Flapjacks

After having reviewed the rather delicious, Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines a few weeks a go, I was hungry to try more from Thomas J. Fudge's. I spotted these Marvellous Milk Chocolate Flapjacks in Asda which were priced at £2.90 - Slightly more than the £2.69, I had paid in Tesco! 

I can't get enough of the quirky packaging - I certainly feel very fancy buying these.. Even the cardboard feels luxurious! 

As seen previously with the Florentines, the 8 chocolate dipped Flapjacks, were presented in a little plastic tray within a cardboard outer - Perfect for popping on the table, as is!

I wish you all, could smells these.. Imagine falling into a pot of sweet syrupy, melted butter - That is the best way to describe the scent! The flapjacks were soft and moist rather than being so densely packed with oats, they have become dry. Having said that, they were still very substantial with plenty of chew and a delicious, sweet and oaty flavour. The butter was slightly salted which is always a good thing when there are a lot of super sweet elements, in there! The well proportioned, chocolate that coated the flapjack was rich and creamy - I imagine they would have had to have been dipped several times to get such a thick layer! Absolutely scrumptious! 

Thomas J. Fudge's have done it again - These babies are certainly something special! I do like it when a fairly simple treat, is done well to produce something that is really quite remarkable! I will definitely be buying these flapjacks again, along with the Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines. My only complaint is that there needs to be more than 8 in a box.. They are far to easy to scoff in one sitting! Its a 4.5 out of 5 from me! 

Review- Thomas J. Fudge's Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines

I am not a nutty person. Well.. I am nuts but the edible sort aren't really my thing. I can enjoy them up to a certain point and then my throat begins to feel funny. Luckily, I don't have to much of a problem with almonds (They are not technically nuts, I know!) and hazelnuts which is what these Thomas J. Fudge's Mouthwatering Milk Chocolate Florentines are made from. Winner! 

I picked up the very suave looking box in Tesco for £2.69. The milk chocolate coated Florentines contain cranberries, sultanas, mixed peel, hazelnuts as well as the signature almonds. 

Inside contained 8 Florentines which were presented in a plastic tray within a cute cardboard outer. 

The Florentines smelt amazing - Chocolatey with sweet caramel tones! They had some serious crunch to them thanks to being jam packed with almonds. Taste wise, the mixed peel really shone through with plenty of nuttiness coming from the almonds and hazelnuts. They were pleasantly sweet with a pop of tartness from the cranberries although I have to admit, they were few and far between. A generous layer of smooth creamy chocolate coated one side of the super chewy and sticky almond mixture. There was also a slight saltiness which created the perfect balance of flavours. 

Overall, these Florentines were pretty darn fabulous! It is a shame that there aren't more than 8 in a box as they certainly didn't stick around for long! A few more cranberries and I'd be giving these top marks.. Its a 4.5 out of 5 from me!
